Lara Beckmann

is a marine biologist and PhD researcher at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, conducting her research in collaboration with scientists in Alaska. Her scientific work focuses on the biodiversity and reproductive strategies of deep-sea corals and sponges, particularly in the Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian region. Lara also serves on the Deep-Sea Biology Society’s art & science and social media team, where she works to connect research with broader audiences. 

In this collaboration, Lara provides the ecological foundation that anchors the artistic interpretations. She translates complex data into narrative themes and supports the educational components of the exhibition through lectures, storytelling, and public events. Her familiarity with the ecosystems featured in the artworks ensures scientific accuracy and enhances the project’s outreach potential, helping audiences see these environments not as distant or abstract, but as living, vulnerable systems that matter. Through this collaboration, she brings her passion for deep-sea life into new mediums, making science accessible, emotional, and memorable.
